The Lionesses’ thrilling victory over Italy with a last-minute goal in the semi-final secured their place in the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final.
Italy led in the first half thanks to Barbara Bonansea, but England advanced to extra time thanks to an equaliser from Michelle Agyemang in the 96th minute.
Following an exhausting 119-minute duel, Chloe Kelly’s penalty rebound goal gave the Lionesses the victory, preserving their prospects of winning the European Championship again.

England coach Weigman became the first manager in men’s or women’s football history to advance to five successive major finals with the victory in the semi-final.
The 55-year-old made it to the finals of both the 2019 Women’s World Cup and the 2017 Women’s Euro with the Netherlands. Following her arrival at the Lionesses, the Dutch head coach led the squad to the finals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the 2022 European Championships and now the 2025 European Championships.
Wiegman lost consecutive World Cup finals in 2019 and 2023 with the Netherlands and England, but she has tasted triumph in the 2017 and 2022 European Championships with the Netherlands and England women’s teams, respectively.
In the eagerly awaited final this Sunday, England will play the winner of Spain and Germany in an attempt to win back-to-back European titles.
