The Scotland national football team are coming in after securing a 4-1 win against Curacao in their recent international friendly ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This shows they are on the right track with their preparations.
However, the Steve Clarke-led side hit a major roadblock. Billy Gilmour got injured in the friendly outing after receiving two hefty tackles. They were initially waiting for the scans for the knee injury.
Later, it was revealed by the Scotland national football team that the playmaker will not be a part of the FIFA World Cup 2026. He has sustained a serious injury.
Scotland’s head coach talked about some options to replace Billy Gilmour if needed. He talked about Connor Barron, Andy Irving, Lennon Miller and Tyler Fletcher. Now, the replacement for the Napoli playmaker has been decided and included in the squad.
Meanwhile, the Boys in Blue are set to take on Brazil, Haiti and Morocco for their World Cup group stage games. It is not going to be an easy journey for them.

The 19-year-old Manchester United starlet, Tyler Fletcher, has been included in the final squad to represent Scotland at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Steve Clarke praised the youngster during the Scotland vs Curacao post-match press conference.
“We have Connor Barron, Andy Irving, Lennon Miller and you can see for yourself how good young Tyler is. It will keep me awake tonight. The three I mentioned are on standby. Tyler joined us this week and trained well, this week, so he is a little bit closer than the other three. But I would need to have a big discussion with my staff in deciding that’s the way to go,” said Clarke.
Scotland national team later took to social media. They announced the inclusion of Tyler Fletcher in the squad.
“Following the news of Billy Gilmour’s injury we can confirm that 19-year-old Tyler Fletcher has been added to our FIFA World Cup squad after making his debut against Curaçao yesterday,”
