The midfielder will represent Scotland at the World Cup.
In honour of Scotland’s return to the biggest competition of international football, Bank of Scotland unveiled a brand-new, limited-edition £20 banknote. It has a picture inspired by Scott McTominay’s famous overhead kick.
The design merges conventional banknote components with artwork inspired by one of Scotland’s most memorable modern football moments, set against the Forth Bridge.
Fans can obtain one of the 100 brand-new notes with the distinctive design through a combination of collector auctions, a public raffle, and two pop-up “vaults” that will only be available for one day in Glasgow and Edinburgh’s city centres. One of the limited-edition notes will be awarded to those who successfully decipher the vault’s code.
Alongside a picture of the Forth Rail Bridge on the new design, McTominay’s spectacular opening goal at Hampden Park in November swiftly became part of Scottish football legend as one of the team’s finest goals.
Now it’s a historic moment for Scott McTominay, who played a crucial part in leading Scotland’s qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup last year.
Scott McTominay speaks about the honourable moment

It felt unreal, according to the 29-year-old Napoli midfielder.
“Things like that don’t happen often, so to have the opportunity to put obviously a great goal on top of a banknote is something that is a bit surreal to be honest and I’m just extremely proud,” McTominay told the BBC.
“I want to go to the World Cup and give a great account of ourselves and show everybody that Scotland is a really good team.”
At the World Cup, which begins on June 11, Scotland are in Group C alongside Brazil, Haiti, and Morocco. The United States, Mexico, and Canada will jointly host it.
