The Tartan Army begin their World Cup campaign against Haiti at Gillette Stadium.

Scotland will mark their return to the biggest stage of all with a FIFA World Cup 2026 Group C clash against Haiti tonight. Having last appeared in the flagship tournament in 1998, the Scots will look to make a positive start to their campaign against their underdog opponents.

The Tartan Army are very much the favourites for tonight’s clash, having won all but two of their European qualifiers. Steve Clarke’s men sealed their place in the expanded 48-team tournament with a dramatic 4-2 win over Denmark.

They lost to Japan and Ivory Coast in warm-up friendlies, but then sealed wins over Curacao and Bolivia before jetting off to the United States. Facing a Haiti side ranked 83rd in the world, Scott McTominay and company will look to clinch all three points. Tonight’s fixture will be key for them, with heavyweights like Morocco and Brazil to come next.

Clarke will be relieved that influential midfielder McTominay returned to training, having recovered from a stomach issue. The Napoli player starts in the middle of the park for the Scots, joined by Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson. Bournemouth winger Ben Gannon-Doak starts on the right flank. On the left, Clarke preferred Aston Villa’s John McGinn over Ryan Christie.

Rangers striker Lawrence Shankland starts at the top, having scored half of his team’s eight goals against Curacao and Bolivia. He is joined by Torino forward Che Adams in a two-man attack.

With Scott McKenna’s fitness in doubt, Clarke paired Jack Hendry with Hibernian veteran Grant Hanley. Former Liverpool man Andy Robertson starts at left-back, and Brentford’s Aaron Hickey starts at right-back.

Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Angus Gunn starts between the sticks, with Clarke favouring him over 43-year-old Craig Gordon. The veteran goalkeeper, who plays for Hearts in the Scottish Premiership, is the oldest player in the ongoing World Cup.
