Top three Scotland players to watch out for at Euro 2024
The Tartan Army can cause upsets in the competition.
Scotland are back at the Euro. They take on tournament hosts Germany on Friday night. But who gets to start in Munich?
For Steve Clarke’s team, it is an opportunity to celebrate rather than be afraid as they aim to pull off an upset in the first game.
After that, on June 19, Scotland will play Switzerland, and four days later, they will play Hungary in their last group match. The Tartan Army hope to advance out of the group for the first time.
Due to injuries to Steve Clarke’s two chosen right-backs, Ross McCrorie or Anthony Ralston will likely start at defensive end. These three players will be the one to watch out for at Euro 2024 from the Scotland team.
3. Tommy Conway
Tommy Conway was added to the national team last week to take Lyndon Dykes’ place, as the Queens Park Rangers striker was sidelined due to injury.
In Friday night’s international friendly against Finland at Hampden, the Bristol City striker made the mark for his adopted country and came dangerously close to scoring the game-winning goal in injury time.
The 21-year-old, who was born in Taunton, is eligible to play for Scotland since his paternal grandfather was from Stirling, a city in Scotland. His grandfather was so influential in his career. The player will hope to find the back of the net when they face Germany.

2. Billy Gilmour
Billy Gilmour is a remarkable young athlete who excelled at Chelsea and has also had success at Brighton. Scotland will need to maintain possession throughout the Euro and Gilmour is skilled at keeping things moving.
The 22-year-old’s ability to locate open space to receive the ball and maintain composure while in control will be crucial for the Tartan Army in the Euro. He keeps things simple and passes the ball accurately, which makes it easier for players like John McGinn and Scott McTominay to have an impact on the game later on.

1. Scott Mctominay
It would be an understatement to say that Scott McTominay is versatile.
The Tartan Army is palpitating because we haven’t seen him in recent friendlies. He is less about beautiful passing and more about pure strength, stamina, determination and finishing prowess.
Nobody can forecast the future in these unpredictable times, especially with the new ownership at Old Trafford, but for McTominay, Friday night’s match against Germany will be the most important thing right now, followed by Switzerland and later Hungary.
