The Tartan Army will play their first World Cup since 1998.

Steve Clarke has unveiled his Scotland 26-man squad that will compete at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Scotland will start their campaign on June 14 against Haiti, returning to the grandest stage of football for the first time since 1998.

The last time the Tartan Army performed on the largest platform was in France ’98. Although Steve Clarke did not participate in that competition, this year will be his first opportunity as coach to guide Scotland to a major tournament’s knockout stage.

The Scots have been deprived of one of the largest football competitions. But since 1998, the team has struggled to recover and has been unable to qualify for the World Cup.

But now that The Tartan Army has returned to the largest stage and will be trying to make an impression, the much-anticipated wait is finally over.

November 18, 2025. That night, Scotland emerged from the wilderness as a proud footballing nation and qualified for the World Cup.

Although Hampden has played host to some thrilling games, few have matched Steve Clarke’s team’s victory over Denmark to advance World Cup. Six months later, the manager of the Scotland national team has revealed his World Cup 2026 roster.

Yes, some of the choices have been simple. John McGinn and Scott McTominay are two of the first names listed on the sheet. Kieran Tierney, too.

Scott McTominay, the centrepiece of Clarke’s squad, has been steadily improving since moving from Manchester United to Napoli in 2024.

Scotland have never advanced past the group stage of a men’s Euros or World Cup; Clarke and his team must overcome this obstacle. At his third major championship in charge, the coach will be hoping for good fortune.
