Scotland vs Morocco: All-time Head-to-head record ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026

Morocco and Scotland will renew their rivalry at the FIFA World Cup nearly three decades after their only previous meeting.
Scotland and Morocco head into their Group C clash with plenty at stake after positive starts to their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaigns. Scotland secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Haiti in their opening fixture, with John McGinn’s goal earning the Scots their first World Cup win since 1990 and boosting their hopes of reaching the knockout stages. Morocco, meanwhile, produced an impressive display against Brazil to claim a 1-1 draw.
Walid Regragui’s side once again showed the resilience and tactical discipline that helped them become the first African nation to reach a World Cup semi-final in 2022, earning a valuable point against one of the tournament favourites. Interestingly, the two nations have met only once before in international football.
That encounter came at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, where Morocco produced one of the most memorable performances in their World Cup history.

Scotland and Morocco have faced each other only once in international football, making this one of the least-frequent international matchups at the FIFA World Cup 2026. Their only previous meeting came during the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where Morocco registered a convincing victory. Previous meeting between Scotland and Morocco
The only meeting between the two sides took place during the group stage of the 1998 FIFA World Cup at Stade Geoffroy-Guichard in Saint-Étienne. Scotland entered the match needing a positive result to keep their qualification hopes alive, but Morocco delivered a dominant performance.
Abdeljalil Hadda opened the scoring for Morocco before Salaheddine Bassir struck twice to complete an emphatic 3-0 victory. Morocco’s attacking football overwhelmed the Scottish defence, while Mustapha Hadji and Tahar El Khalej were among the standout performers in midfield.
Despite the convincing victory, Morocco were heartbreakingly eliminated from the tournament after Norway defeated Brazil in the other group match. Scotland also exited the competition, meaning both sides saw their World Cup journeys come to an end despite Morocco’s memorable win.
