Senegal announce squad for AFCON 2025; Sadio Mane called up

The Lions of Teranga will start their AFCON 2025 campaign against Botswana.
Three players who have been dealing with ailments have been added to Senegal’s roster for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025. Moreover, the team is optimistic that they will be prepared when the competition in Morocco begins later this month.
Coach Pape Thiaw chose Assane Diao, Habib Diarra, and Ismaila Sarr in a 28-man selection despite their doubts about making the squad. He told a press conference that he was sure they would be prepared to play.
While Diarra of Sunderland underwent groin surgery in September and hasn’t featured since, Diao had a thigh injury while competing for Como in Serie A last weekend.
Meanwhile, Sarr has been out of his team’s last three games. This is after he was forced out in the first half of Crystal Palace‘s 2-1 home loss to Manchester United on November 30 due to an ankle ligament injury.
Senegal will play in Group D at the competition, where they will face Benin and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in addition to their campaign starter against Botswana in Tangier on December 23.
