The centre-back is currently a free agent.
Sergio Ramos is now weighing his decision to retire from football after receiving no offers from Sevilla. This is after leaving Monterrey this summer. The centre-back was playing for the Spanish club for a season before joining the Brazilian club last year.
It was reported that Ramos wanted to return to Europe in the hope of making it to the Spain squad for the 2026 World Cup. But with Sevilla not deciding to bring the centre-back, Ramos could retire from the sport.
Ramos has been training alone since becoming a free agent. Right now, joining Sevilla is not on the cards. However, he can still look for other clubs that can offer him a one-year contract.
Revealed why Sevilla cannot sign Ramos

Sergio Ramos’ potential return to Sevilla FC is no longer a topic of discussion. Sporting director Antonio Cordón’s direct and insightful statement, “It’s like trying to buy a car without money,” put an end to any chance of the defender returning to the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
In addition to ruling out Ramos, such a statement served to quell any further rumours. The emphasis of Nervión is on truth rather than creating illusions that don’t have financial support.
Beyond the name Sergio Ramos, Cordón’s remarks depict a structural economic dilemma that affects many of LaLiga, not just Sevilla. He clarified that many historic teams have been pushed to the brink by severe salary cap laws and dependency on revenue from European competitions.
Buying of Sevilla delayed
It was disclosed last month that negotiations were underway for Sergio Ramos, with his investment group, to take over as Sevilla’s next owner. There is still a long way to go until the process is finished. This is despite the fact that an agreement in principle has been struck during recent weeks of negotiations between his consortium and the Andalusians.
The club’s worrisome LaLiga condition is one of the reasons the process is not anticipated to be finished until June. Sevilla, who are now in 15th place in the rankings and just two points above the relegation zone, have apparently explored signing Ramos, although this has since been ruled out.
Which club does Sergio Ramos play for?
He is currently a free agent.
Why did Sevilla not sign him?
Because of financial problems.
Which position in LaLiga are they in right now?
