South Korea beat Czechia 2-1 in their opening World Cup game.
Son Heung-min is the second South Korean player to participate in four FIFA World Cups (2014, 2018, 2022, 2026), after current manager Hong Myung-Bo.
Son Heung-min, a national star of the Republic of Korea, made his fourth FIFA World Cup appearance in 2026.

According to Optajoe, he is the second South Korean player to have appeared in four FIFA World Cup campaigns. He matches the accomplishment of the current Korea manager, Hong Myung-Bo, who also represented his country in four World Cups.
Hong Myung-Bo played for the Republic of Korea in four FIFA World Cups beginning in 1990. He was a member of the South Korean team that competed in the 1990, 1994, 1998, and 2002 World Cups.
He was also a member of Korea’s coaching staff for the 2006 and 2014 World Cups and presently coaches his team. Hong Myung-Bo is the Tigers of Asia’s joint-second most capped player, with 136 caps and 10 goals.
South Korea get off to a winning start
South Korea came from a goal down to upset the Czech Republic 2-1, giving them a strong start to their World Cup Group A campaign. This is much to the satisfaction of their fans and the considerable local Mexican support they received in a jubilant Guadalajara.
The Koreans joined Mexico at the top of the pool with three points. The co-hosts, Mexico, earlier defeated nine-man South Africa 2-0 in the tournament’s opener in Mexico City.
Ladislav Krejci put the Czechs ahead with a stunning header as the Europeans dominated in the air. But Hwang In-beom equalised shortly after and set up substitute Oh Hyeon-gyu’s winner.
