Rodri to lead the Euros winners in the World Cup

Football’s biggest spectacle, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is set to raise its curtain in less than two weeks. Every squad and player update has kept fans in utmost excitement for the grand tournament.

The latest edition is set to be co-hosted amongst three nations – the USA, Mexico and Canada, marking the competition’s return to the North American soil after 22 years. It will also be the largest in history, with a record 48 nations set to battle it out for the coveted title.

As the tournament draws closer, the tournament favourites are laid out, and the Spain national football team is on everyone’s lips. The side had an unimpressive 2022 campaign, being eliminated in the Round of 16 by Morocco. Despite a poor record in the World Cup since their victory in 2010, the team is entering the 2026 edition with huge expectations, having secured the 2024 UEFA Euros Championship.

Spain were easily able to navigate through the qualifiers, qualifying as table toppers of their group. They had a strong outing, conceding only two goals. displaying their defensive stability, which they need to carry to the World Cup.

Luis de la Fuente has named his 26-member squad for the tournament, with experienced midfielder Rodri Hernández leading the La Roja for the World Cup. The manager has also taken a bold decision to include any Real Madrid players in the team, for the first time in the World Cup’s history.

Two of his notable inclusions were of Marc Pubill and Eric Garcia. Garcia is set for his return after four years, with the Barcelona defender playing his last match in November 2022. However, the most surprising call-up was Marc Pubill. The youngster secured his position after great performances for Atlético Madrid, earning him his first international debut.

Spain will have to get through the group stages to compete for the title, with many considering it an easy passage for the former champions. They are placed in Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, alongside Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Cape Verde.
