Yamal will hope to score his first-ever World Cup goal.

Lamine Yamal has stressed that he doesn’t care how many goals he scores. He added that he isn’t obsessed with scoring goals. He feels his style of play is different compared to other world-class stars.

Despite his fast rise to the top levels of world football with Barcelona and Spain, Lamine Yamal stays grounded and grateful to those who became famous before him.

As Spain prepare for their next 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Saudi Arabia, the player has cautioned about his physical condition. Following recent injury setbacks, the athlete prefers a gradual return to full intensity over rushing in.

He hopes to start against Saudi Arabia and will be looking to open his World Cup account. However, in his words, he wouldn’t really care if he scored a goal. He is not desperate to score goals.

Yamal said: “I don’t care about how many goals I score. I’m not obsessing about that. First of all, they’re [Mbappe, Messi & co] all at least 10 years older than me, and my style of play is different. I only want to win

He added that a full 90-minute shift may be premature at this point in the competition. He continues to monitor his recuperation.

Yamal was barely fit enough to play as a substitute in Spain’s World Cup 2026 opening against Cape Verde, which ended 0-0.

After coming on in the 71st minute, Yamal attempted the highest number of dribbles (five) of any player in the game in search of a winning goal against Cape Verde.

Lamine Yamal is now Spain’s youngest debutant. In 26 appearances for his nation, Yamal has six goals and 11 assists. In 151 outings with Barcelona, the 18-year-old has 49 goals and 45 assists.
