Next week, Spain will play friendlies against Egypt and Serbia, but one aspect of Luis de la Fuente’s team has drawn notice. Dean Huijsen, a Real Madrid player, is the only one called up.
Injuries are starting to shape the picture as head coach de la Fuente gets his team ready for the World Cup this summer.
A rising list of absences has had a significant impact on Spain’s most recent lineup. Marc Pubill, who was first chosen but will miss out because of a rib ailment, is the most recent blow.
He joins Mikel Merino, Fabián Ruiz, Pablo Barrios, and Samu Aghehowa in being out, depriving De la Fuente of important midfield and attacking options.
A number of new faces have been introduced as a result of those absences. Ander Barrenetxea, Víctor Muñoz, Joan García, and Cristhian Mosquera have all been called up; García’s selection has garnered special attention.
The coaching staff now has an additional option between the posts as the Barcelona goalkeeper joins Spain’s well-established trio. The scheduled “Finalissima,” which was cancelled owing to the ongoing war in the Middle East, is essentially replaced by these forthcoming friendlies.
Spain won’t play again after these games until June 4, when they play Iraq at A Coruña as their last warm-up before the World Cup.
