La Roja sit top of Group H ahead of tonight’s match.
Spain take on Uruguay in their final Group H fixture in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2026 at Estadio Akron in Zapopan, Mexico, on June 26. The two-time world champions sit top of the group with four points and can seal their place in the Round of 32 with a win tonight.
Despite entering the tournament as one of the title favourites, La Roja had a shocking start to their campaign. They were held to a drab goalless draw by debutants Cape Verde, with their forward line looking completely out of touch.
However, their lethal attack returned to form in the next game against Saudi Arabia, which ended in a 4-0 win for the European giants. Lamine Yamal scored on his first World Cup start, and Mikel Oyarzabal also netted twice.
Luis de la Fuente’s men need a win to guarantee they finish as group champions. Even if they manage a draw in tonight’s game, they should still top the group if Cape Verde do not beat Saudi Arabia by five or more goals.

Let’s look at the Spain confirmed lineup for the FIFA World Cup 2026 match against Uruguay:

Spain (4-3-3): Unai Simon; Marcos Llorente, Pau Cubarsi, Aymeric Laporte, Marc Cucurella; Mikel Merino, Rodri, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Mikel Oyarzabal, Alex Baena.
Substitutes: Joan Garcia (gk), David Raya (gk), Eric Garcia, Gavi, Alejandro Grimaldo, Borja Iglesias, Victor Munoz, Dani Olmo, Yeremy Pino, Pedro Porro, Marc Pubill, Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams, Martin Zubimendi.
Thoughts on the lineup
Despite having secured qualification, there’s no reason for de la Fuente to field a weakened team against a tough opponent like Uruguay. Unai Simon has been the preferred No. 1 goalkeeper for the national side and retains his place between the sticks.
Pau Cubarsi and Aymeric Laporte have been ever-present in the heart of defence for La Roja, and they are flanked by Marcos Llorente and Marc Cucurella in the full-back positions. Manchester City’s Rodri starts just in front of the defence, tasked with breaking up the opposition’s attacks.
Dani Olmo impressed during the match against Saudi Arabia, but he was replaced by Arsenal’s Mikel Merino, who is paired with Pedri in advanced roles. Victor Munoz still has not recovered from his muscle injury, so Lamine Yamal makes his second start of the campaign.
Mikel Oyarzabal, fresh off scoring twice in the last match, leads the line for La Roja. Nico Williams, who came off the bench against Saudi Arabia, is yet to get his first start of the tournament. Instead, Atletico Madrid’s Alex Baena starts on the left.
