Football’s most elite competition, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is set for its return after four years with the largest edition to date. Spain, who will be enyering the tournament as the reigning European champions, will face Peru in their final World Cup preparatory friendly at the Estadio Cuauhtémoc in Puebla, Mexico. Both nations are set for their fourth official meeting, with Spain having won all the previous three fixtures.
Spain, led by midfielder maestro Rodri, is arriving with massive expectations as one of the tournament favourites, aiming to win their second title after the 2010 victory. They sealed their spot for the competition after a dominating first-place finish in their UEFA qualification group. Spain is placed in Group H for the 2026 World Cup, considered an easy pathway for the Luis de la Fuente-led side. They will compete alongside Cabo Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay. They begin their World Cup campaign against Cabo Verde on June 15 at Atlanta Stadium.
Peru, however, failed to qualify for the 2026 edition after a disappointing outing, finishing at the bottom of the CONMEBOL qualifiers. Despite missing the tournament, Peru, guided by elite talents coming into the international roster, is all set to prove to be a difficult challenge for Spain.
