La Roja continue their unbeaten run against the Green Falcons.
The Spain national football team were back in action for their second game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They locked horns with the Saudi Arabia national football team at the Atlanta Stadium.
The Luis de la Fuente-led side underperformed in their opening game of the flagship tournament, but they have turned the tide and shown that they are a much more capable side. The European champions have now secured their first victory of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and will now be feeling much more confident moving forward.
The Saudi Arabia national football team was completely outplayed by La Roja, but still has a slight chance to secure the round of 32 spot in the mega competition this year.
Five important things we learned from this match:
1. Responded like genuine contenders
After their underwhelming performance against Cabo Verde, the Spaniards have made a strong comeback to secure a dominant 4-0 victory against Saudi Arabia. They came up with a well-balanced effort across all departments on the field. Luis de la Fuente’s men have responded in fashion and have shown why they are one of the favourites to win the FIFA World Cup 2026.
2. First World Cup goal for Lamine Yamal
At just 18 years and 343 days, Lamine Yamal has scored his first-ever goal at the FIFA World Cup. He started for the first time on the grandest stage of them all and did not disappoint anyone with his performance. The FC Barcelona star will continue to play a crucial part in the final third for the Spain national football team.

3. Mikel Oyarzabal’s commendable performance

Mikel Oyarzabal came up with a sensational and quick brace for La Roja. Before that he assisted the 18-year-old Lamine Yamal for his first-ever World Cup goal. Oyarzabal put in a top performance here and showed why he deserves to start for Spain as a striker over other options.
4. Impactless Saudi Arabia
The Green Falcons put in a lacklustre show against the European champions. They conceded four goals and failed to score any. Their passing accuracy was decent, but their performances both in the attack and the defence were poor. The Saudi Arabia national football team only came up with three attempts on goal and only one of them was on target.
5. La Roja with a clinical edge
The Spain national football team dominated possession against Cape Verde as well, but were unable to fire the ball at the back of the net. They did not mess around in their game against Saudi Arabia. They scored four goals and defended really well. La Roja did not allow the Green Falcons to come up with many attempts and this was a big plus point for them this time around.
