Sweden have been winless against the Netherlands since 2011.

Sweden are ready to face the Netherlands in their second game of the FIFA World Cup. Graham Potter’s men have a dominant performance in the opening match, defeating Tunisia 5-1.

Both Swedish strikers, Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak, scored one goal each, while Yasin Ayari completed a brace. Mattias Svanberg, who only had three touches throughout the game, also got his name on the scoresheet. The Swedish side made their intent of having a deep run in the tournament clear in their opening game.

Graham Potter also has a relatively younger squad, with Kristoffer Nordfeldt being the oldest player. Before coming into the FIFA World Cup, Blågult played two warm-up games. In the first game, they lost to Norway, while in the second, they drew 2-2 with Greece.

Meanwhile, Blågult have scored 11 goals in their last three competitive games. While Sweden’s attacking department is firing and floating, there have been lapses in their defence that the Netherlands could target.

The last time Sweden kept a clean sheet was in June 2025, when they recorded a 2-0 win in a friendly fixture over Hungary. Since then, Blågult have played 12 games and have conceded at least one goal in every game.

The duo of Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak will help the Swedish side convert counterattacks and crosses into goals. Blågult’s hero from the last game, Yasin Ayari, is in the midfield alongside Gabriel Gudmundsson and Alexander Bernhardsson, which will help the team maintain width.

Benjamin Nygren, who did not enjoy the last game as much as a few other players, will continue to play as the sole attacking midfielder of the side.

Sweden’s three-man defence, consisting of Victor Lindelof, Isak Hein, and Gustaf Lagerbielke, will be responsible for stopping the other side from scoring. Meanwhile, Kristoffer Nordfeldt is expected to keep the gloves for just one of the opening games.

When and where will the Netherlands vs Sweden clash be played?

The game will be played at the Houston Stadium on Saturday, June 20.

In which group of the FIFA World Cup 2026 are these two teams drawn?

The two sides are drawn in Group K alongside Japan and Tunisia.
