Switzerland starting lineup vs Qatar confirmed for FIFA World Cup 2026 clash

This will be the second-ever clash between these nations.

The Switzerland national football team will now have a face-off against the Qatar national football team in their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Group B clash will take place at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium.

Murat Yakin’s men have put in decent performances ahead of the mega competition. They first secured a dominant 4-1 win against Jordan and were then held to a 1-1 draw by Australia. Their performance in the last international friendly was not the best and they will now be looking for a positive start in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

On the other hand, opponents Qatar are on a poor run of form at the moment. Their last few games before the World Cup were underwhelming. They will be eager to secure a win in the opening game, but Switzerland are going to come up with a very tough challenge for them.

Thoughts on the lineup

Granit Xhaka is all set to captain the Switzerland national football team on the grandest stage of them all. In the midfield, he is likely to have Ricardo Rodríguez, Remo Freuler, and Michel Aebischer to help him establish control of the game.

Between the sticks, it will be Gregor Kobel. Denis Zakaria, Manuel Akanji and Nico Elvedi are going to form a strong backline.
