Tanzania name final squad for AFCON 2025

Tanzania will start their tournament against Nigeria.
Miguel Gamondi, the head coach of Tanzania, has revealed his final 28-man roster for the 2025 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations. This is a significant milestone in the Taifa Stars’ attempt to advance to the tournament’s knockout stage for the first time ever.
The selection, which was made public following weeks of evaluation of an initial provisional team, includes both exceptional players from the Tanzanian Premier League and a well-balanced mix of international quality.
The selection is dominated by players from local powerhouses Simba SC, Young Africans, and Azam FC as Gamondi adheres strictly to his ideology of creating a side based on domestic talent.
Tanzania will fight in a difficult Group C, including three-time winners Nigeria, North African heavyweight Tunisia, and strong regional rivals Uganda in their fourth participation at the continental showcase.
The Taifa Stars’ campaign starts on December 23 against Nigeria, then moves on to Uganda on December 27 before concluding the group stage with a challenging match against Tunisia on December 30.
Gamondi, who succeeded Hemed Suleiman, has encouraged his players to “push to get results in every game” as they pursue a historic knockout berth. Tanzania recorded its highest-ever AFCON points total in 2023 despite failing to advance.
