The German star will leave Bayern Munich after the end of the Club World Cup.
Bayern Munich icon Thomas Muller was questioned if he would have liked playing for Manchester United, and the German star provided a mixed reply.
Muller is currently playing his last few matches for Bayern at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, and following the culmination of the competition, the legendary German star will leave the club as a free agent.
Although the player’s contract expired in June, Bayern renewed it for another month so he could feature in the competition. The player has already been linked with a few clubs, and it remains to be seen which team will land the prolific midfielder.
Amid the Club World Cup, the player gave an interview with CBS reporter Kate Scott, where he was asked plenty of questions and among them was whether he would be open to joining the Red Devils.
Thomas Muller to Manchester United?
However, Thomas Muller provided a contradicting answer to the query, saying:
“Yea, I thought about it, there were some moments I thought okay, maybe, it would be nice to experience it.”
But when the question was clarified and whether he would join Manchester United now, but not in the past, he said:
“No, no, no. I’m not the right guy for them, and they are not the right club for me. They want to have fun, and I want to have fun.”
It would be unlikely that United will make a move for the star who is now past his prime and would be more keen on playing where the stakes aren’t as high. This is especially true as United are undergoing a rebuilding phase under Ruben Amorim, the club is prioritising more young players.
Meanwhile, Thomas Muller, who spent the majority of his career at Bayern, will be looking at the final chapter of his playing career and could join either an MLS club or a Saudi Pro League team.
However, for now, he will be hoping to conclude his Bayern career with a trophy and lead them to the revamped Club World Cup 2025 title this summer.
Louis van Gaal wanted to sign Thomas Muller in 2015

The Dutchman worked with Muller between 2009 and 2011 at Bayern Munich, so when he joined United, he wanted to bring him in.
Van Gaal admitted this as quoted by talkSPORT: “I tried to bring Muller to Manchester both in the 2014/2015 season and in the 2015/2016 season. In 2015 it would have been possible if his wife had been a little more open to a transfer abroad.
“At least that was the reason Thomas gave my assistant Marcel Bout, who had had all the conversations with him, why the transfer had been rejected.”
