Thomas Tuchel informs Marcus Rashford he'll rely on him for England matches: Report
The Manchester United forward was not called up to the Three Lions squad for Euro 2024.
Marcus Rashford of Manchester United has reportedly been contacted by new England manager Thomas Tuchel on what’s in store for playing with the Three Lions.
The Sun claims that Tuchel informed Rashford that, should he maintain his form, he expects him in his Three Lions squad. The German reportedly thinks that not having Rashford as a replacement was a major factor in England’s inability to win Euro 2024. He is extremely fond of the 27-year-old.
With the aim of guiding the Three Lions to a FIFA World Cup triumph in 2026, Tuchel will begin his tenure as England’s manager in January 2025. Getting the most out of Rashford will be one of his many responsibilities, provided the United player performs well for the Red Devils on the field. Rashford will be motivated to make amends for 2024 when 2025 arrives, despite not being chosen for the Euros.
Rashford has made 17 appearances for United this season, scoring four goals and dishing out three assists, which puts him halfway to the goal total he recorded in 43 outings last season. To be included in Tuchel’s England team, he might have to perform better than that.
At the moment, Rashford will be focused on his future under new United manager Ruben Amorim, and what lies at the club level under him, before he considers rejoining the England team and maybe playing under Tuchel. In Sunday’s Premier League match against Leicester City at Old Trafford, the winger failed to score in the 3-0 victory.
Due to his lacklustre play this season, the attacker has not been included in any of interim England manager Lee Carsley’s squads, with players like Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze, and Jack Grealish ahead of him in the hierarchy.
But 2025 will usher in a new era for England, as former Chelsea manager Tuchel will take charge of the national squad.
The United player has earned 60 caps for his nation and scored 17 goals since making his Three Lions debut in 2016.
He scored three goals at the 2022 World Cup and was a member of the England team for the 2020 and 2016 European Championships.
Rashford needs to prove himself for a comeback to the club after only four goals and three assists in 18 games this season. He will be hoping that new Red Devils manager Ruben Amorim can give him a boost.
