Thomas Tuchel, the manager of England, mentioned two key factors on which he is going to select his squad for the 2026 World Cup: they need to have the proper mix of talent and social skills.
In the group stage, the Three Lions will face Ghana, Croatia, and Panama as they attempt to win the trophy for the first time since 1966.

The German coach has called up seasoned midfielder Jordan Henderson while leaving out players like Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, and an in-form Jack Grealish.
While speaking about his squad selection for the 2026 World Cup, he said:
“It will be very important that we don’t select just for talent but also for what we need from a player.”
“What the social skills are of a player, is he a good teammate? Can he support if his role is maybe the supporting role? So, this is where the focus is.”
England won all eight of their World Cup qualifying matches without giving up a goal, scoring 22, despite some of their choices drawing criticism.
Before Thomas Tuchel chooses his World Cup team, which will be determined by factors other than football prowess, England will play friendly matches against Uruguay and Japan in March.
Under Southgate, England made it to the World Cup semifinals in 2018 and have advanced to the last two European Championship finals.
On June 17, they take on Croatia in Arlington, Texas, to start their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
