Spurs have won two UEL trophies in their history.
On Wednesday in Bilbao, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United will play in the UEFA Europa League final. Both teams are looking to end disappointing seasons on a positive note.
Both teams will have a major chance to finish the season with something as they get ready for the sixth all-English UEFA final. Similar to Spurs, United’s performance at San Mames will determine if they make it to Europe the next season (2025-26)
After 17 years without winning a major trophy, Tottenham could end the 2024–25 season with one despite all the negativity their Premier League campaign has brought forth.
Spurs can also become the second English team to win Europe’s second-tier tournament three times, joining Liverpool, having won the UEFA Cup twice in 1972 and 1984. That was before the competition evolved into the Europa League.
Although they lost 2-0 to the Merseyside giants in the 2018–19 UEFA Champions League in their last final appearance, they are back. The team is now only one victory away from fulfilling Ange Postecoglou’s prophecy after winning the league phase round and moving on to the knockout stages.
Spurs might now continue the trend of ‘Big Ange’, the first Australian coach to take a team into a major European final. He famously cited his record of consistently winning a trophy in his second year at any club.
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup vs Manchester United
Tottenham Hotspur predicted lineup (4-3-3): Vicario (GK); Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma, Bentancur; Johnson, Solanke, Son
Guglielmo Vicario will take Antonin Kinsky’s place in goal despite his strong performance against Aston Villa. Rodrigo Bentancur, Dominic Solanke, Brennan Johnson, and Pedro Porro are likely to be returning.
Heung-min Son, Spurs’ captain, could maintain his position after starting for the first time since he recovered from a foot injury. Expect Radu Dragusin, Timo Werner, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski not to be starting in Wednesday’s final.
Solanke, who has five goals and four assists in the Europa League this season and has scored in each of his last four games against Manchester United, is expected to lead the front line with Son’s support.
