Spurs have been handed a major boost with the return of Maddison.

Both James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur have returned to first-team training, giving Tottenham Hotspur a significant boost in their ongoing struggle to survive in the Premier League.

Although Maddison is still some time away from being fully fit and is not anticipated to play in Saturday’s match against Brighton, the two midfielders were seen practising at Hotspur Way on Wednesday.

James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur return to training

The 29-year-old Maddison is in a race against time to make an appearance before the end of the season after suffering an ACL injury in August. It has kept him out of action for the entire season.

Bentancur, meanwhile, has been out since January due to a severe hamstring injury sustained during Tottenham’s 3-2 away loss to AFC Bournemouth.

Despite returning to first-team training, Maddison is not anticipated to be available for manager Roberto De Zerbi’s selection in Tottenham’s match against Brighton on Saturday, according to Sky Sports News.

Tottenham, who are few points away from safety in 18th place in the Premier League standings, will have to finish their challenging season without captain Cristian Romero.

Due to a knee injury sustained in Sunday’s 1-0 loss to Sunderland, the Argentine international will not be able to play until the end of the season and will have to work quickly to hopefully be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Mohammed Kudus, a forward who suffered a setback in his recuperation from a quad injury and may need surgery, will be out for Tottenham ahead of the match against Brighton.

Wilson Odobert, Ben Davies, and Dejan Kulusevski are still long-term absences. Meanwhile, Guglielmo Vicario may return on Saturday following hernia surgery during the international break.
