Along with persistent defeats, Spurs have suffered an injury blow.
Due to concussion injuries sustained during Tottenham Hotspur’s 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid, Cristian Romero and Joao Palhinha will not play against Liverpool.
After a lengthy altercation on the field, the two were taken off the field well into stoppage time at the Metropolitano.
Palhinha was immediately substituted. Tottenham Hotspur finished the game with nine men. Romero tried to continue before getting replaced.
Romero recently came from a four-game suspension after getting sent off against Manchester United last month. So he hasn’t played a league game under Igor Tudor yet.
According to FA concussion procedures, if a player has suffered a concussion, they should start a six-phase “return to play” process that begins with 48 hours of rest with little physical and “cognitive” activities.
Fears were expressed that Romero and Palhinha, who were substituted against Atletico on Tuesday night, may not be able to play when Spurs, who are one point above the bottom of the table, play Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Micky van de Ven is going to serve a one-game ban against Liverpool after being sent off during last week’s 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace. This is all while Spurs are still without several first-team players due to injuries.
Tudor provides an update on Tottenham’s injury

Yves Bissouma will not travel to Anfield, according to Tudor, although Conor Gallagher should be alright despite having a fever.
“Micky is also out. Bissouma is out,” Tudor said.
“Conor has some fever. But probably he will be in. So we have again a lot of problems to make the first eleven. This is how it is in this club. This happens all the time.”
Former Tottenham coach Thomas Frank said on February 9 that left-back Destiny Udogie would be out for four to five weeks due to a hamstring injury.
Tudor acknowledged that the Italian international should be able to play against Nottingham Forest the following week.
Which injury has Cristian Romero suffered?
He has sustained a concussion.
How long will Romero be out?
He will now be going through a phase that will take him 48-hours to recover.
Where do Tottenham Hotspur stand in the table?
They are 16th in the table.
