Tunisia suffer elimination from the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Japan saw off Tunisia with a dominating win. They secure their first win of the World Cup 2026 and climb to the second spot in Group F. Goals from Daichi Kamada and Ayase Ueda guided the Asian nation to an impressive win.

Tunisia endured another defeat. They join Haiti and Turkey to become the third nation to be eliminated from the competition.

Meanwhile, Japan solidified their qualifying position for the knockout stage. They will next face Sweden in their last group game.

With this, we take a look at five key takeaways from the Japan and Tunisia match.

Key takeaways from the historic 1,000th World Cup match

5. Japan score three goals for first time since 2010 World Cup

The Samurai Blue eased past to a 4-0 victory over Tunisia following a 2-2 draw in their opening World Cup encounter against the Netherlands. They displayed a commendable performance and put four past the Eagles of Carthage. It was also their first time scoring more than three goals since the 2010 World Cup.

The Japanese men’s national team upset Denmark 3-1 in their last group-stage encounter at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa on June 25, 2010. It was the last time they had scored precisely three goals in a single FIFA World Cup match.

4. Japan become first Asian team to score four goals at World Cup

During their dominant 4-0 group stage win, the Samurai Blue created history. They are the first Asian side to score four goals in a Men’s FIFA World Cup match. They most notably accomplished this feat against Tunisia in the 2026 competition.

3. Ayase Ueda first Japanese player to score two goals at World Cup

Ayase Ueda made history by becoming the first Japanese player to score two goals in a single Men’s FIFA World Cup match. In a convincing 4-0 group-stage victory over Tunisia, he scored twice. Once in the 31st and 82nd minutes.

2. Tunisia become third nation to be eliminated from World Cup

Tunisia have now joined Haiti and Turkiye to become the third nation to bid farewell to the World Cup campaign after another group stage defeat. Their first loss was at the hands of Sweden. In that one, they let in five goals, which also resulted in the sacking of their previous manager, Sabri Lamouchi.

This led to the appointment of Hervé Renard. But the Eagles of Carthage once again fell short. They suffered a painful elimination from the competition.

1. Kamada scores Japan’s fastest goal at World Cup

Daichi Kamada took no time giving Japan the head start in the game after finding the back of the net in just the fourth minute. The forward was in an ideal position to put the ball beyond the opposition’s goalkeeper’s reach. Japan began with an impressive start to their second World Cup 2026 game.

Additionally, he set a new record for the national team after his goal. He became the fastest goalscorer for the Samurai Blue in the FIFA World Cup.

Where do Japan stand in the table?

They are second in Group F.

Did Tunisia get eliminated?

Yes, they are the third nation to be eliminated from the FIFA World Cup 2026.
