The last game between them ended in a 2-0 win for Japan.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is currently underway, and it has already given us some unexpected results so far. After the conclusion of the first round, teams will start playing their second games, and we will get a better picture of who will advance to the next round.

The fourth game from Group C will feature an interesting clash between Tunisia and Japan. Tunisia lost 5-1 against Sweden in their opening matchday and is already one foot outside the competition. Following this result, Tunisia’s head coach, Sabri Lamouchi, was sacked, and they have brought in Hervé Renard to salvage the situation.

Japan, on the other hand, impressed everyone with their brave display against the Netherlands. Japan have played some memorable games against some European giants in recent years and are arguably the most entertaining team to watch. In this article, we will take a look at five key battles to watch out for during the game.

5. Montassar Talbi vs Ayase Ueda

The Japanese international plays his club football for Feyenoord in the Eredivisie. He has registered 25 goals in 31 appearances during the 2025/26 league season. He will be engaged in an interesting clash with Tunisia’s center back, Montassar Talbi. Despite his team conceding five goals, Talbi displayed his elite defensive qualities against Sweden.

4. Rani Khedira vs Daichi Kamada

Another exciting clash from the game will be between Rani Khedira and Daichi Kamada. Midfield is considered the most important area of the football field during the game, and all teams prefer to have control of it. Khedira prefers to play on top of the defence line, whereas Daichi Kamada is coming into this game after scoring against the Netherlands.

3. Firas Chaouat vs Shogo Taniguchi

The third entry on our list is a contest between Japan’s defender, Shogo Taniguchi, and Tunisia’s striker, Firas Chaouat. Chaouat is the focal point of Tunisia’s attack and will be given the responsibility to find the back of the net. However, going up against Shogo Taniguchi will be a challenging task for him. Shogo Taniguchi reads the game very well and is Japan’s leader at the back.

2. Yan Valery vs Keito Nakamura

Keito Nakamura scored a screamer against the Netherlands and is in excellent form. He has scored five goals in his last three appearances. The task of containing him will be given to Tunisia’s fullback, Yan Valery. This clash on the wings will be an incredible watch for the fans, as we can expect an intense back-and-forth between these two talents.

1. Hannibal Mejbri vs Tsuyoshi Watanabe

Topping our list is a clash between Hannibal Mejbri and Tsuyoshi Watanabe. Both contribute massively to their respective teams’ attacks and defence. Hannibal assisted Tunisia’s only goal against Sweden and was arguably the best player on the pitch for them. He likes to drift to the left and will frequently face Tsuyoshi Watanabe. The Japanese defender is coming into this tournament on the back of a successful season with Feyenoord.
