UEFA approves expansion of squad to 26 players for Euro 2024
UEFA Euro 2024 will set to commence on 15 June
The UEFA Euro 2024 this summer will likely allow teams to choose from 26 players, as a UEFA vote on Monday approved larger squads.
At an assembly of the UEFA national competitions group on Monday, Sky Sports News learned that participants decided to approve modifying the requirements for Euro 2024 from a 23-player limit to 26 players. The proposal was first made during a satisfying of all the country’s coaches in Dusseldorf two weeks ago.
The last Euros in 2021 employed enlarged squads as a way to assist countries in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic’s aftermath.
With this most recent ruling, it appears that 26-player teams will now be the standard for all UEFA national championships.
The UEFA executive committee (EXCO) must approve the regulation modification before the decision is finalised, but it is anticipated that this will only be a formality.
Although the EXCO will not convene in person until May 22, it is customary for a decision of this nature to be approved virtually. Later on in the week, that might occur.

With the opening match of the Euros just over eight weeks away with injuries plaguing both England and Scotland, this development is going to come as a great relief to Gareth Southgate and Steve Clarke.
The Netherlands boss, Ronald Koeman, called Uefa’s decision to lower squad sizes for the competition this summer “absurd”.
But in light of the sheer number of injuries sustained in the Premier League this year, his perspective has evolved.
While UEFA were considering the squad size demands, Southgate said in March that he would nominate an initial 26-man squad for Euro 2024.
