The tournament will take place in Switzerland
The 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championship will be the 14th edition of this competition. This tournament is organised by UEFA for Women’s National teams of Europe. Switzerland is the host nation of this tournament, and it will be played between 2nd July to 27th July. It will be the third edition since it was expanded to 16 teams. This competition will return to its usual four-year cycle after the previous tournament was delayed to 2022 due to the pandemic.
England are the defending champions and will look to defend their trophy in the competition. The continent’s top nations will compete throughout the 26-day tournament across eight host cities. Out of the 51 national women’s teams associated with UEFA, 16 have made it to the group stages. Here we will take a look at the Groups of this competition:
How does UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 work?
The 16 teams at Euro 2025 are divided into four groups, each, and the top two teams after the group stage matches will qualify for the knockout stage. The Knockout stages will be like: Quarter-Finals, Semi-Finals and then Finals. Switzerland is hosting this tournament for the first time.
Teams and Groups
Group A
Group A consists of Finland, Iceland, Norway and Switzerland. This will be the third appearance in this competition for Switzerland, the 5th appearance for Iceland and Finland. Norway will play this tournament for a record 13th time and have won two times in 1987 and 1993. Norway and Switzerland will be the favourites to go into the next stages.
Group B
It consists of Belgium, Italy, Portugal and Spain. This will be the third appearance for Belgium and Portugal in European Competition. On the other hand, Spain will play for the fifth time. Italy, just like Norway, will appear in this competition for the 13th time. This will be a very competitive group as all the teams have quality, and anything can happen.
Group C
Denmark, Germany, Poland and Sweden are placed in this group. Germany has won this competition for record eight times, and Denmark were the runners-up in the 2017 edition. This will be the first time Poland will participate in this tournament, and Sweden became champions in 1984, and it will be their 12th appearance.
Group D
England, France, Netherlands and Wales are grouped. England were the Champions in the last edition, and it will be their 10th time participating in this competition. Wales will make their debut just like Poland. The Netherlands were the Champions in 2017, and it will be their fifth time participating in the competition. France participates for the eighth time in the Euro.
Which venues will host UEFA Women’s Euro 2025?
It will take place in eight cities of Switzerland: St. Jakob Park, Stadion Wankdorf, Stade de Genève, Stadion Letzigrund, Arena St.Gallen, Allmend Stadion Luzern, Arena Thun and Stade de Tourbillon.
