Uruguay at Copa America 2024: Full squad, preview, match schedule, venue, telecast info

La Celeste are searching for their first Copa America crown after 2011.
As the 2024 Copa America approaches, much of the pre-tournament hype surrounds favourites Argentina and Brazil. However, Uruguay are quietly emerging as a dangerous dark horse with the potential to go all the way.
Despite their small population, Uruguay have a proud football pedigree with 15 Copa America titles, tied with Argentina for the most all-time. Under veteran coach Marcelo Bielsa, they have been one of the in form teams in South American World Cup qualifying.
Impressive results like victories over Brazil and Argentina have demonstrated La Celeste’s ability to beat the best sides. Their dynamic, young squad blends exciting talents like Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez with battle-hardened veterans.
The major obstacle for the team could be the difficult path they face through the knockout rounds. Should they top their group, they would likely need to overcome Colombia and Brazil just to reach the final.
However, Uruguay will view this as an opportunity to make a statement rather than a daunting challenge. Bielsa’s famed high-energy tactics could allow them to outwork and outmuscle elite opponents over 90 minutes.
Captain Federico Valverde and forward Darwin Nunez spearhead a frontline oozing with goals in qualifying. Meanwhile, a talented crop of Under-20 World Cup winners provide even more depth.
While Argentina and Brazil enter as heavyweights, Uruguay’s recent performances mark them out as credible contenders to claim their first Copa America since 2011.
