Uruguay announce final squad for FIFA World Cup 2026 ft. Federico Valverde

Luis Suarez misses out on La Celeste’s World Cup roster.
Uruguay’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad has been announced by manager Marcelo Bielsa, with many surprises in the roster.
Marcelo Bielsa has chosen 26 players for the 2026 World Cup. While there aren’t many new players, there is one obvious missing player. The primary surprise is that Nahitan Nández, who started the qualifications, was left out.
Guillermo Varela, Giorgian de Arrascaeta and Nicolás de la Cruz from Flamengo, Joaquín Piquerez and Emiliano Martínez from Palmeiras, Agustín Canobbio from Fluminense, and Sergio Rochet from Inter were all called up.

One of the big names that has been dropped is Inter Miami centre-forward, Luis Suarez, who had hoped to play in his last World Cup. Bielsa decided to go with Rodrigo Aguirre, Federico Viñas and Darwin Núñez.
The 26 players who will participate for La Celeste in the largest event in the world did not include the 39-year-old striker. Consequently, one of the best players in Uruguayan football history will not be able to participate in the tournament that many anticipated would be the final phase of his international career.
Suárez, who is still Uruguay’s all-time greatest scorer, led the national squad for many years. But the coaching team has chosen to believe in a new generation of athletes.
