USA group revealed for FIFA World Cup 2026

USA will host the majority of the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.

After being eliminated by Netherlands in the last FIFA World Cup, the United States of America are coming back this time as a host nation. They have been placed in Group D. Let’s take a look at their opponents, coach, and important players.

Opponents in group stage:

• Pot 1 – United States of America
• Pot 2 – Paraguay
• Pot 3 – Australia
• Pot 4 – Turkey/Romania/Slovakia/Kosovo

Placed in pot 1 as one of the host nations, the USA National Team were drawn in group D alongside Paraguay, Australia, and the winner of playoff C (one of Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, or Kosovo). With the benefit of home supporters and a reasonably easy group, anything less than a top-of-the-table outcome must be unacceptable for the hosts.

Coaches and key players:

Coach – Mauricio Pochettino

Since taking over as head coach of the USA National Team, Mauricio Pochettino has had more success than failure. In his 22 games in command of the USMNT, they had 14 wins and an average of two goals per game. They were the 2025 Gold Cup runners-up, losing to Mexico in the finals.

Key Players – Folarin Balogun and Christian Pulisic

Folarin Balogun has been one of the key sources for goals for the USA National team. The Monaco attacker has contributed to 12 goals (8 goals + 4 assists) in 23 appearances since making the switch to US national team from England.

Christian Pulisic, frequently termed “Captain America” is one of the most experienced players in this group and will be the X factor for the USMNT. With over 80 appearances and 30+ goals for the country, the AC Milan attacker has earned the USMNT player of the year title four times.

How they qualified:

Along with Canada and Mexico, the United States of America will co-host the esteemed FIFA World Cup in 2026. They were therefore immediately eligible to compete as one of the host teams.

World Cup history:

This will be the 12th appearance of USMNT in the FIFA World Cup. They have qualified for eight of the past nine World Cups, with the exception of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. More often than not, they make it out of the group stages, and their highest performance was third place in their inaugural World Cup in 1930.
