The co-host nation secured a dominant win in the World Cup.
On Friday night, the United States men’s national team (USA/USMNT) opened their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with three goals in the first half.
The United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) defeated Paraguay 4-1, their first World Cup victory in 24 years against them. The United States took the lead in the seventh minute thanks to an own goal.
Striker Folarin Balogun scored twice, including the final kick of the first half, to give the Americans a comfortable lead in one of their most dominant displays ever.
Paraguay managed to claw one back in the second half before Gio Reyna scored in the added time’s final kick for the USA, extending the advantage to three in the game’s last play.
Obviously, that Paraguay goal has little bearing on the final result. But it could have a significant impact on the Paraguayans’ goal differential at the end of the group stage.
