USA vs Bosnia & Herzegovina: Five key battles to watch out for in FIFA World Cup 2026

USA lost against Türkiye in their last game.

San Francisco Bay Area Stadium on July 2nd will host an exciting fixture between the USA and Bosnia. The USA have been extremely impressive in the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino.

They defeated Paraguay in their opening game of the tournament. They locked horns with Australia in the second round of the group stages and emerged 2-0, victors. Despite their 3-2 loss against Türkiye on the last group stage fixture, the USA are amongst the dark horses of the competition and can achieve incredible things in the ongoing tournament.

Bosnia & Herzegovina, on the other hand, had a lengthy World Cup qualifying campaign, going through the UEFA play-off and defeating Italy in the final to book their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They opened with a 1-1 draw against Canada, then suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss to Switzerland. In a must-win match against Qatar, Bosnia stepped up and secured a 3-1 victory.

In this article, we will take a look at the five key battles from a colossal clash between the USA and Bosnia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

5. Chris Richards vs Ermedin Demirović

The contest between Chris Richards and Ermedin Demirović is expected to be a fascinating one. Chris Richards usually adopts an aggressive approach, nipping in front of strikers before they can control the ball. Ermedin Demirović, on the other hand, excels at holding up the ball in the final third to allow his teammates to exploit space. He is yet to score a goal in this tournament, but has been impressive nonetheless.

4. Tyler Adams vs Ivan Bašić

The second entry on our list is a contest between Tyler Adams and Ivan Bašić. Tyler Adams has been consistently impressive for the USA in the 2026 FIFA World Cup so far. He prefers to stay back and shield the backline. He also brings the intensity off the ball that is required in Mauricio Pochettino’s system. Ivan Bašić, on the other hand, is more of a box-to-box midfielder who helps out in both offence and defense.

3. Antonee Robinson vs Esmir Bajraktarević

Antonee Robinson has been an excellent wing-back for the USA in recent years. He absolutely dominates the left hand side and is relentless with his gameplay. He had a successful season on an individual level with Fulham and had a great showing against Paraguay and Australia in this world cup as well. He’ll be up against Esmir Bajraktarević, who is highly skilled in his own right. Bosnia will be relying on him to be a creative outlet despite his young age.

Edin Dzeko is statistically the greatest goalscorer in the history of the Bosnia & Herzegovina national team. He played a vital role in his country qualifying for the World Cup. Dzeko is yet to score a goal in the ongoing tournament, but has stepped up in big occasions throughout his Illustrious career. His positional awareness is top-class as well. Tim Ream will be given the task of keeping the Bosnian legend quite and the center back certainly has the ability to do so.

1. Christian Pulisic vs Tarik Muharemović
