Uzbekistan and DR Congo are meeting for the first time at the FIFA World Cup.

Uzbekistan will face DR Congo in their final group stage game of the ongoing World Cup at the Atlanta Stadium in Georgia.

The White Wolves scripted history by becoming the first Central Asian team to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Their performance in the summer tournament has not given them a reason to celebrate, as they have conceded eight goals in two games while scoring one.

Fabio Cannavaro’s side struggled to contain Colombia in their opening fixture. Bayern Munich star Luis Díaz was one of the main reasons for Uzbekistan’s struggles in Colombia’s 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo also rediscovered his lost FIFA World Cup form against the White Wolves on matchday 2.

The Portuguese attacker scored a brace while Nuno Mendes and Rafael Leao also found the back of the net, leaving Abduvohid Nematov without any answers. They are already out of the tournament; however, they would look forward to getting a happy ending to their World Cup adventure as they prepare for the DR Congo clash.

However, winning against the African side would not be easy either, as they held Portugal to a 1-1 draw in the opening game. They also have a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage if they beat the White Wolves on the last day of the group stage.

Uzbekistan Starting XI: Abduvokhid Nematov (GK); Abdukodir Khusanov, Kakhongir Urozov, Rustam Ashurmatov; Khozhiakar Alizhonov, Otabek Shukurov, Akmal Mozgovoy, Sherzod Nasrullaev; Abbosbek Fayzullayev, Dostonbek Khamdamov; Eldor Shomurodov.

Thoughts on the lineup

Uzbekistan have a fresh team and no major injury concerns within the squad; as a result, they will play at full strength. Abduvokhid Nematov will keep the gloves for the White Wolves while Abdukodir Khusanov, Kakhongir Urozov, and Rustam Ashurmatov will team up to boost the side’s three-man defence.

Khozhiakar Alizhonov and Sherzod Nasrullaev will add width to the midfield, while Otabek Shukurov and Khozhiakar Alizhonov will maintain the team’s tactical structure. Meanwhile, Abbosbek Fayzullayev and Dostonbek Khamdamov will play alongside captain Eldor Shomurodov in attack as Uzbekistan look to score their second goal.
