FC Alverca are aiming to play in the first division of the Portuguese league.

A club aiming for a top-flight spot was bought out for £6.7 million by Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr.

Ahead of Wednesday’s crucial Champions League second-leg play-off matchup with Manchester City, the Real Madrid winger completed the purchase and will oversee the team’s restructure.

After losing 3-2 in the first leg last week, Pep Guardiola’s team travels to the Bernabeu. In that thrilling match, Jude Bellingham scored the winner because of a stoppage-time assist from Vinicius Jr.

He has now finished buying FC Alverca, a second-tier Portuguese team. The Brazilian led a team of investors from Spain and his home country.

Alverca confirmed: “(Previous owner) Ricardo Vicintin has sold his qualified stake in the public limited company to a group of investors. More information on the matter will be communicated in due course.”

According to reports, Vinicius will hold 70–80% of Alverca’s stock. The team is second in Liga Portugal 2 and is headquartered close to Lisbon, the country’s capital.

Alverca are hoping to play in the top division next season against powerhouses like Sporting Lisbon, FC Porto, and SL Benfica.

After a 12-month hiatus in 2005 due to financial difficulties, they only won Liga 3 a year later. They had previously competed at the greatest level for three of the five years, from 1998 to 2003. The Complexo Desportivo, Alverca’s home stadium, has space for 7,705 spectators.

The takeover will be beneficial for them as Vinicius Jr is likely to inject funds into the club. Eventually, it will help them sign top players and revamp the club’s structure, which could aid the club in reaching the first division of the Portuguese league.

Vinicius Jr, meanwhile, is expected to play a significant role as Real Madrid attempt to defeat City in the Champions League second leg at home and advance to the last 16.
