After sustaining an ankle injury during Sunday’s El Clásico defeat against Barcelona, Vinícius Júnior might miss Real Madrid’s next match.
In Sunday’s El Clásico, Barcelona defeated rival Real Madrid 4-3, bringing them one step closer to winning LaLiga. Eric Garcia and Lamine Yamal each scored a goal, and Raphinha scored twice as the Catalan powerhouses nearly put an end to Los Blancos’ aspirations of winning the championship, despite Kylian Mbappe scoring a hat-trick.
Star winger Vinicius Jr. suffered an ankle injury and had to be replaced in the 88th minute by Victor Munoz, further hurting Carlo Ancelotti’s team, whose hopes of winning the title now dwindle.
According to journalist Ruben Martin, the 24-year-old’s ankle injury revealed a Grade 2 sprain during the initial testing. Martin went on to say that the team’s matchday roster against Mallorca on Wednesday is unlikely to include the star player.
The most goals a Real Madrid player has scored in his first season at Santiago Bernabeu is 38, which Kylian Mbappe achieved on Sunday with his first-ever El Clásico hat-trick.
Ancelotti’s team still needs to defeat Mallorca in order to have a chance at winning the championship. Their last three matches to end the season will be against Sevilla and Real Sociedad.
Vinicius Jr’s poor run of form this term
Meanwhile, on an individual level, the Brazilian has endured a poor season this time as he has only contributed 11 goals and seven assists in 29 matches in the league.
Along with the club, he is set to a trophyless this term unless the Catalan club drops points in their next fixtures after going seven points clear following a 4-3 win over the Los Blancos.
Moreover, the forward is set to extend his deal with the Los Blancos after months of negotiations, and his new contract will make him one of the highest-paid players at the club alongside Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe.
