Vinicius Jr tells Real Madrid he won't extend contract: Report

The Brazilian feels he has been mistreated at the club.

Since his relationship with manager Xabi Alonso is still so tense, Vinicius Jr. has informed Real Madrid that he does not want to extend his contract.

According to three people with direct knowledge of the encounter, Vinicius Jr. and Florentino Perez, the president of Real Madrid, discussed the message late last month. They requested to remain anonymous to preserve relationships, just as every other source consulted for this story.

The contract of Vinicius Jr. expires at the end of June 2027. In January, negotiations for an extension began, but they came to a standstill when the parties were unable to come to an understanding.

Vinicius Jr. went to visit Perez after Madrid defeated FC Barcelona 2-1 in the El Clásico on October 26 to express regret for his actions during the game. After Alonso replaced him in the 72nd minute, he reacted angrily, storming off the field and yelling, “Always me, I’m leaving the team, it’s better if I leave, I’m leaving.”

The topic of Vinicius Jr.’s future was also covered at that discussion. He stated that because of his friendship with Alonso, he believes that extending is not the best course of action for him. Since that stance has remained unchanged.

The Athletic has reported on multiple occasions that those close to the Brazilian say he has reservations about Alonso, who took Carlo Ancelotti’s position back in May. Tensions have only increased during the first three months of the new season. It is now a subject of daily discussion both within and beyond the club.

These tensions began on July 9 after Madrid were defeated 4-0 by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 semifinal.

Vinicius Jr. feels that Alonso is not treating him fairly. Even though he directly mentioned it to some people, including Perez, in his social media apology letter following his outburst during the Barcelona game, he did not particularly target his manager.
