Inter Milan and PSG will face each other in the competition final.
Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, believes that PSG are not the favourite to win the 2024-25 Champions League final versus Inter Milan.
The Dutchman spoke with the French publication L’Equipe. He claimed to “know” the Nerazzurri and thinks they will present the Parisians with fierce competition.
In less than a week, Paris Saint-Germain and Inter Milan will square off in the Champions League final. With a remarkable knockout run that saw them defeat Feyenoord, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona, Inter secured their spot in the championship game.
PSG, meanwhile, defeated Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Liverpool, the three Premier League giants. There is no denying that PSG and Inter have been two of the league’s most exceptional teams this year.
A highly successful league phase was also experienced by Inter Milan. They achieved noteworthy victories over teams like RB Leipzig and Arsenal.
PSG, however, had a difficult league phase debut. But in their most recent games, including a thrilling 4-2 comeback victory over Manchester City, they came charging back and secured their place in the play-off.
PSG favourites? No, I don’t think so: Virgil van Dijk
The former Southampton defender has made his feelings clear on who are the favourite heading into the Champions League final. Speaking to L’Equipe, he said:
“PSG favourites? No, I don’t think so. I played against PSG recently and they made a strong impression on me.
But as for Inter, I’ve played against them in the past and I know two of their players well, my compatriots Denzel Dumfries and Stefan De Vrij. Perhaps Inter have a little more experience than PSG, given that they recently played in the Champions League final (in 2023 against Manchester City).”
This time it will be challenging to predict the winner, given Van Dijk feels that Inter are more favourites to win the trophy as they played in the final of the Champions League in 2023. However, we can also consider that PSG have featured in one in 2019.
But most of the players from that time have left the club, and the team has many new faces, but they will certainly pose a danger, as we witnessed in their route to the final.
