Vozinha becomes third goalkeeper to achieve rare FIFA World Cup record after 40

The FIFA World Cup provides global arenas for athletes to transition from near-total obscurity to global icons. At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Cape Verde goalie Josimar José Évora Dias, also known as Vozinha, has emerged as a breakout sensation.
Vozinha, 40, has seen his fame skyrocket after leading Cape Verde — Africa’s third-smallest country and World Cup debutant — to a 0-0 draw against tournament favourites Spain on June 15. The BBC described it as “perhaps the biggest upset of the tournament so far.”
He faced 27 shots from the 2010 World Cup champion Spain and saved seven for the Blue Sharks. He received the Man of the Match award for his outstanding performance.
Moreover, he continued his brilliant performance in the other two group stage fixtures to lead Cape Verde to the World Cup knockout round. There, they will face Argentina.
Ever since Spain‘s match, Vozinha has been in the limelight and set many records in the competition as Cape Verde made history.

Following another draw against Saudi Arabia, Vozinha became just the third goalkeeper to record multiple FIFA World Cup clean sheets after turning 40 years old, joining Peter Shilton (3) and Dino Zoff (2).
His fame has continued to rise ever since his appearance in the competition. Vozinha’s performance against Spain was the start of his new chapter in his career. He instantly became a World Cup hit with his saves, which saw his social media status rise to a million followers.
