Wales squad for World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan; Aaron Ramsey omitted

Wales will face Kazakhstan in a World Cup qualifier game this September.

Aaron Ramsey, the skipper of Wales, is left out of the team for the September World Cup qualifying match against Kazakhstan.

The 34-year-old midfielder made his debut for the Mexican team Pumas UNAM last week, playing his first minutes for the side since suffering a hamstring injury in Cardiff City’s 2-1 victory over Luton Town on March 11.

After sustaining a knee injury during Leeds United‘s 1-0 Premier League victory against Everton in mid-August, Ethan Ampadu is also not in the squad.

Despite playing well for Cardiff City in their undefeated start to their campaign in League One and the EFL Cup, Rubin Colwill is not called up.

On Aaron Ramsey’s omission, head coach Craig Bellamy said:

“He hasn’t played enough football over a period. It wouldn’t be fair to call him up, travel the distance, the time difference [from Mexico to Wales] and then travel to Kazakhstan, and expect him to play any part of it after being out for so long.”

“The injury, particularly with a hamstring injury, it wouldn’t be responsible from us to do that or expect anything from him.”

Wales host Canada in a friendly five days after playing Kazakhstan in Astana in the World Cup qualifiers.
