Wesley Okoduwa: Profile, playing style, scouting report
The teenager was on the bench during Wolves’ 2-0 defeat to Arsenal
On Friday, Wesley Okoduwa was hauled by Wolves from a science class as he was on the bench in their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal.
His appearance would have made him the team’s youngest player. After nine first-team players are either out due to injury or aren’t well enough to make an appearance on Saturday night at Molineux against the Gunners.
Okoduwa, who is regarded as one of England’s best players in his age group, has played for Wolves’ Under-21 team and is currently considered by Manchester United.
Who is Wesley Okoduwa?
Wesley, the child of former Nigeria U23 international Okoduwa, had the potential to become the youngest player in Wolves’ Premier League history today. Ethan Nwaneri, a young man of Nigerian descent, holds the record for being the youngest boy to appear in Premier League history.
15-year-old Okoduwa made the Wolves roster for their second game in the Premier League this season. Before their match against Arsenal, Okoduwa skipped a science lesson to practice with the first squad.
Despite not making his debut that evening against the Gunners, O’Neil spoke highly of the starlet’s prospects.
The manager expressed his disappointment to the BBC that the teenager was not allowed to play in a press conference following his team’s loss.
O’Neil’s remarks about the 15-year-old suggested that the kid, who was astonishingly born in 2008, might play in the future as early as this season.
Despite all of the challenges the Wolves’ small roster has presented this season, there is one bright spot: the chance it has given young players to shine over the last several weeks.
It remains to be seen if Okoduwa, who is only 15 years old, will make his Premier League debut this season. If so, it might be the beginning of something truly remarkable for the youthful defender.
“I was disappointed he didn’t get on but we were pushing hard. He’s trained really well though so I’m sure we’ll see him soon.”
