The midfielder hopes to win more trophies with United.

Bruno Fernandes has revealed what Manchester United must do to persuade him to stay with the team longer. Since joining the Red Devils from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, Fernandes, 31, has been a game-changer.

As United fight to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, the Portuguese midfielder has continued to set the standard this season, contributing eight goals and 16 assists in an amazing individual performance.

With just one year remaining on his contract—though United have the option to extend it by a further 12 months—the 31-year-old’s future is still a heated topic.

Bruno Fernandes, who has only won two trophies at Old Trafford, also hinted at what United need to do if he wants to stay with the team in the long run, even though he didn’t want to discuss his future in an interview with The Telegraph.

“I tell the club I want to compete,” the United captain said. “Everyone that comes to Man United wants to win every trophy. No one thinks in coming to the club that we’re going to fight for one or two trophies in six years.”

“You want to fight for all of them. And what I said to the club every time that I spoke with them, what I want from the time I’m here, I want to compete. Because if I compete, I will be close to winning. If I don’t compete, there’s no chance I’m going to get close to anything.”

In addition, Bruno Fernandes stated that players join the team because of its history and because they hope to win championships.

Bruno Fernandes did, however, express his belief that better times are on the horizon and was eager to emphasise that there must be reality behind what the club say to him.

“What I always say to the club is: You can’t promise me that I’m going to win the Premier League. That’s impossible,” he added.

“But if you promise me that we’re going to be competitive and we’re going to be there at the end… that’s all I need to know. Because then it’s on me to become the best version of myself, to help everyone around to become the best version of themselves, to become the club we want to be.”

How many trophies has he won at United?

He has won the FA Cup and the EFL Cup so far.

When is Bruno Fernandes’ deal expiring?

Where do United stand in the league?
