What are new rules in place for FIFA Club World Cup 2025?

The Club World Cup will see 32 teams competing with each other.
FIFA published the 2025 Club World Cup regulations, which included clauses allowing for minimal rest and full-strength squads.
FIFA has released the rules for its contentious Club World Cup, a 63-game competition with 32 teams that will take place in the US next summer. One of these is that all clubs must field their best squads, and if they don’t, they risk severe penalties.
Another clause in the rules that were revealed on Tuesday, according to ESPN, mandates that players register “3-5 days” before their June 15 opening match. At the close of a busy 2024–25 season, many elite players will have little time for relaxation due to an international window that is set for June 6–10.
Additionally, clubs are exempt from having to release players for important competitions, which might hurt the USMNT’s performance in the Gold Cup, which is scheduled for July of next year.
The regulations come after months of debate and doubt over whether the event would go place. The competition, which will include 32 teams from across the world, has long been endorsed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino. In September, the frequently criticized president revealed all of the competition’s locations during the Global Citizen music event in New York. However, a location for the final has not yet been chosen.
FIFA has yet to negotiate a broadcast rights agreement, despite all signs that the event will go. According to reports, Apple paid $1 billion for global rights, which was four times less than what the global governing body of figure football was requesting.
The competition will begin on June 15. At Hard Rock Stadium, Inter Miami will take on an unidentified opponent in the first game.
According to FIFA’s Club World Cup rules, owners are not allowed to possess shares in more than one club, and teams are required to have a tournament roster of 26–35 players. Additionally, exceptional transfer windows are available from June 1–10.
