When will Ruben Amorim begin as Manchester United manager?
The Portuguese has personally agreed to become the Red Devils coach.
After agreeing to join from Sporting CP on a contract through 2027, Rúben Amorim will take over as head coach of Manchester United. However, he won’t begin until after the international break in November.
The 39-year-old’s €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause fee and around €1 million to reduce his 30-day notice requirement are being paid by United. Ruben Amorim will stay with Sporting for their next three games, which include Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League visit to Manchester City. On November 24, he is likely to oversee his first United game when they go to Ipswich Town.
Before passing over to Amorim, Ruud van Nistelrooy will stay on to serve as United’s interim manager for three more home games including against Chelsea on Sunday, PAOK on Thursday, and Leicester on November 10. On November 11, the international break will start.
As a sign of respect for Sporting, who are about to elevate João Pereira, the head coach of the B team, to succeed him, Ruben Amorim did not want to push his departure.
Although the specifics of their remuneration have not yet been decided, it is expected that Amorim would bring the following members of his backroom crew to Manchester United: goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital, sports scientist Paulo Barreira, and coaches Emanuel Ferro, Adélio Cândido, and Carlos Fernandes. Omar Berrada, the CEO of United, and Dan Ashworth, the sports director, have been in Lisbon this week to talk with Sporting CP.
After Ruben Amorim arrives, Van Nistelrooy has stated that he is prepared to stay at Manchester United and work in any capacity the new manager chooses.
On Tuesday, after Sporting’s 3-1 League Cup win over Nacional, the Portuguese coach admitted: “In this moment, I have nothing to say and everything that I say will cause more noise.
“There’s nothing concrete to say right now, but when I have to speak about the subject, I will. When I have something concrete to say and not just something that will fuel speculation, I will.
“I’ve always been clear about my decisions and the decision is mine as the statement stated. When I am sure of everything, everything will be easier because to say something now, is not the best action to take.”
