The Portuguese has officially been appointed as the Red Devils coach.

Although Ruben Amorim has been named the next manager of Manchester United, he won’t take over until mid-November.

The Portuguese club are insistent that their head coach completes his notice period, thus the 39-year-old will stay at Sporting Lisbon until the international break.

“Manchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach of the men’s first team, subject to work visa requirements,” a club statement said.

“He will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.”

Shortly after the decision to fire Erik ten Hag, United told Sporting CP that they were willing to pay Amorim’s €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause.

Additionally, the Old Trafford administration has decided that Amorim can finish Sporting’s next three games, with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy continuing to serve as their manager in the meantime.

When will Ruben Amorim join United and which game will be his first?

Ruben Amorim’s debut game as manager will be an away trip to Ipswich Town on November 24. Home games against Bodo/Glimt and Everton will follow shortly after. However, he will report to club on November 11.

As a result, interim coach Van Nistelrooy, who led United to a resounding 5-2 victory against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup’s fourth round, will have three more games as manager.

The former United forward will be in charge during Sunday’s Premier League matchup against Chelsea, in addition to the Europa League match against PAOK and later again league action against Leicester.

As United’s opponents go to Lisbon for the Champions League next week, Amorim will oversee one of his final games as Sporting manager against Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

Prior to the international break, Sporting takes on Estrela and Braga. Sporting are off to a perfect start in their league title defence.

Sporting have also gotten off to a great start in the UEFA Champions League, amassing seven points from three games before playing City on Tuesday.
