Which number kit will Viktor Gyokeres wear at Arsenal?

The centre-forward will undergo a medical on Saturday.

If all goes according to plan, Viktor Gyokeres will be Mikel Arteta’s sixth summer acquisition after his medical on Saturday.

According to The Mirror, he is expected to don the club’s iconic number 14 shirt, which was immortalised by Gunners hero Thierry Henry, once the contract is formally signed.

Viktor Gyokeres is almost ready to join Arsenal after Sporting CP officially gave the Swedish striker the all-clear to undergo a medical.

The 27-year-old centre forward had already verbally agreed on a five-year contract before talks took place, while the Gunners were in the midst of intense negotiations with the Portuguese giants for his services.

Arsenal successfully struck an agreement with Sporting CP

After nearly two weeks, the North London club and Sporting CP came to an agreement worth £55 million up front and £8.7 million in add-ons. Negotiations over the details of those bonuses took the most time.

But after some difficult haggling, the Gunners finally worked out the last technicalities and finalised the agreement with Sporting.

During his two years in Portugal, the prolific forward has amassed an outstanding 97 goals in 102 games for Sporting, in addition to 28 assists.

The Swedish player went on strike to guarantee his return to England after winning the Taca de Portugal and back-to-back Primera Liga titles.

Interestingly, Gyokeres will be the team’s first natural striker since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was acquired by Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018.

Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig was another player the Gunners considered acquiring, but they ultimately opted against it because of the transfer figures that were quoted.

Gyokeres will join Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, and Cristhian Mosquera as the new signings of this summer window.

A random fact you should know

Ironically, Gyokeres, who will wear shirt number 14, could make his official debut for Arsenal against Manchester United on 17 August- on the birth date of north Lononders’ legend Thierry Henry. Henry and the Gunners kit number 14 are something very synonymous.
