After Tottenham Hotspur defeated Everton on the last day, West Ham United were demoted from the Premier League, ending the Hammers’ 14-year tenure in the top division.
To avoid the drop, Spurs had to lose to the Toffees at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Hammers had to defeat Leeds United at London Stadium in their last game.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will compete in the Championship in 2026–2027 despite West Ham’s 3-0 victory against Leeds at home and Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Everton.
Which clubs got relegated from Premier League 2025-26?
Long before the last day of the 2025–2026 season, two teams were mathematically doomed to relegation: Burnley and Wolves were already on their way to the Championship.
West Ham have joined Burnley and Wolverhampton Wanderers in being demoted to the Championship for the upocming season.
Jarrod Bowen said to Sky Sports: “It hurts. A horrible place to be in football. Relegation for a club like this? It hurts. We did enough today but throughout the season we haven’t.”
“You can pinpoint many things but when you go out on the pitch it’s about players turning up week in and week out. Last season we managed to wriggle out of it, but we haven’t this time. We have been there all season.”
Hull City, Ipswich Town, and Coventry City will take their spots. The latter defeated Middlesbrough 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday to earn their place in the playoff final.
Nuno replaced Graham Potter as West Ham’s head coach at the end of September, although the Portuguese manager was unable to sustain the team’s strong performance this year.
As a result, West Ham are demoted for the first time since 2012.
