Manchester City will face Crystal Palace in the final.

One of the centrepieces of the English football calendar is the roaring noise and colour of the FA Cup final day. The match will take place today, and the entire attention of English football, along with the world, will be on today’s game.

In this season’s FA Cup final, we have Manchester City and Crystal Palace fans who will trade terrace shouts during the 2025 final while wearing club scarves and displaying banners.

City, as usual, are the favourites going into this game. Palace will be hoping to beat the odds as they are playing in their third FA Cup final and will be hoping to win it today.

Pep Guardiola’s City defeated Nuno Espirito Santo’s Nottingham Forest 2-0 to reach the final, while Palace defeated Unai Emery’s Aston Villa 3-0 to win the semifinals.

However, there is going to be an uplifting moment that goes back nearly a century before the game begins.

Those in attendance at Wembley will be asked to join in on the traditional cup final hymn, “Abide With Me,” before the UK national song, “God Save the King.”

What song will be played before the FA Cup 2025 final?

Henry Francis Lyte, an Anglican preacher, composed the Christian hymn “Abide With Me” in 1847.

It is a prayer that asks God to be present in both good and bad times, as well as in life and death.

Lyte unfortunately passed away three years after finishing the lyrics, which are thought to have been composed while he was afflicted with tuberculosis.

Usually performed fifteen minutes prior to kickoff, Abide With Me made its debut during Cardiff City vs. Arsenal’s 1927 cup final.

Traditionally, the fans of both teams would lead a rendition led by a brass band on the field. More recently, guest singers have been added.

The Massed Bands of His Majesty’s Royal Marines will support Sinead Ashiokai and Siena MBC when they perform “Abide With Me” at the 2025 FA Cup final.
