Former Flamengo goalie Bruno Fernandes de Souza has recently signed a contract to play for Vasco-AC in the Copa Do Brasil. In 2013, the goalie was given a 22-year prison sentence for ordering Eliza Samudio, his ex-girlfriend, to be killed, abducted, and dismembered.
His refusal to pay child support led to her murder. He is now seemingly destined to play for the lower division team after being released from prison in 2017.

Born on December 23, 1984, Bruno Fernandes das Dores de Souza is a Brazilian professional football player who plays as a goalkeeper.
Bruno was a vital member of Rio de Janeiro’s Flamengo from 2007 to 2009. However, before that, he played for many Brazilian sides, starting his career at Atlético Mineiro in 2002 and spending four years there before joining Corinthians. His big move came in 2007 when he joined Flamengo, and the next year his transfer became permanent.
There he played until 2010, the year when he was accused of killing his ex-girlfriend. Following that incident, Bruno Fernandes de Souza didn’t play football until 2020.
Bruno Fernandes de Souza was accused in 2010 of assaulting, torturing, and killing Eliza Samudio, his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his youngest child.
He was sentenced to 22 years in prison in 2013 for ordering Samudio’s murder, concealing the body, and abducting his infant son. In February 2017, he was granted release pending appeal.
His re-arrest was ordered by the Brazilian Supreme Court in April 2017. He was freed to serve a partial house arrest in July 2019, which allowed him to work or train during the day but required him to spend the night at home.
After that, he joined three football teams: Atlético Carioca in 2021, Rio Branco Football Club in 2020, and Poços de Caldas in 2019. He was freed on a license in January 2023.
Bruno Fernandes de Souza was revealed as a new addition to SC Capixaba for the 2026 campaign. He complained about inferior facilities and delayed wages, which the club refuted. He then left in January.
Now, Vasco-AC have announced the signing of the goalkeeper. The custodian is set to play in the 2026 Copa do Brasil this season.
